The fastest times of the weekend came from the TT-Unlimited class. Philip Grabow and team from Element Tuning again threw down the gauntlet to the nation’s top tuning houses. On Saturday their heavily modified Subaru STi was the only car on Saturday to break the 2 minute mark, setting a 1:58.890.

Subaru has been added to the list of manufacturers to win the country’s newest national time-trial series, the Whelen USTTC. Philip Grabow convincingly won both days of competition in the TT-Unlimited class at New Jersey Motorsports Park (Millville, NJ), which saw record entries in the Whelen US TimeTrial Championship.

Philip Grabow returned to his winning ways in the Whelen US TimeTrial Championship, setting Round 9’s outright fastest time to win the TT-Unlimited class on Saturday. Grabow’s Element Tuning Subaru STi lapped America’s most exclusive circuit in 2:26.811.

As luck would have it though, come about 4 pm, the clouds stopped crying and made way for sunny skies, drying the track quickly, but still leaving wet spots. Phil debated on putting on the Hoosiers, but the track was still wet enough that he decided to stick with the RA-1s. Things were pretty tense since both PDX Tuning and GST were posting up fast times,

Which each lap the car got progressively quicker and quicker. I was still conservatively driving the center of the track trying to get used to the transitions. The exit of turn two on this track is a long downhill which features one of the largest elevation changes I have ever personally raced. At the end of this downhill is a tight right hander which transitions immediately into a tight downhill off camber left. My ambition got the best of me and….
